Hello,
The southward shorebird migration is in full force. In the last few days,
Kristen and I have observed the following shorebirds, gulls, and terns at
the SR-9 Sewer Ponds (Quail Creek/Hurricane):
White-faced Ibis
Killdeer
Black-necked Stilt
American Avocet
Spotted Sandpiper
Marbled Godwit
Western Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER (7/28)
Long-billed Dowitcher
Wilson's Phalarope
Franklin's Gull (Im)
Ring-billed Gull
California Gull
Caspian Tern
Forster's Tern
BLACK TERN (7/26)
In addition there have been six species of swallows at the ponds, including
100's of Tree Swallows (Tree, Violet-green, N. Rough-winged, Bank, Cliff,
and Barn). This is also the best time of year to look for Indigo Buntings
in Washington County. Last week an adult male was singing at the Quail
Creek inflow willows, and a pair were observed in the Washington Fields
along 3000 East.
Best of luck to those heading to Pine Park this week....you certainly have
some challenging target birds! This is a great time of year to visit.
