On March 8th I birded (ducked) the Central Pond at
the Matheson Preserve. Lots of courtship activity underway, with the Amer. coots
winning the award for the most impressive. There were about six pairs of
redheads, lots of coots and Canada geese, and scattered amounts of American
widgeons, green-winged teal, gadwalls, common goldeneyes, mallards, and
ring-necked ducks. Bring a scope and your ditch boots - the water is
back!
