tripod on a plane

Carol,

    I have taken my tripod through security a couple of times.  The first 
time,  I was taken aside and they opened the bag and searched  everything. 
I suppose the combination of spotting scope, binoculars,  and tripod looks 
a little suspicious on x-ray.

    The second time, I removed the offending articles from my carry-on and 
sent them through separately,  and there was no problem.
