1st day 2006 birds

First birds of the new year for me

included the following, that I saw within a 2 mile radius of my home in Logan:

Hundreds of pine siskins at my home feeders

black-capped chickadees

mountain chickadee

Townsend's solitaire

house finches

Many, many American crows cruising the neighborhood.

song sparrows

spotted towhees

black-billed magpies

American robins

red-tailed hawk

American dipper

ruby-crowned kinglet

bald eagle

northern flicker

downy woodpecker

mallard

and thirty plus Barrow's goldeneye and fifteen common goldeneye at 1st dam.

As I was walking home later in the afternoon, around 5:00 pm, I saw a flock of around 40 goldeneyes fly over me. They were moving from east to west, more than likely the same goldeneyes that were at 1st dam. I assume that they feed at the dam during the day and at dusk take off for another area to rest for the night.

Still waiting for that huge flock of Bohemians to make it to my front yard.

Stephen
