Finally - long-eared owl



Finally, after what seems like decades, I was privileged on Sunday at
Antelope Island to see a LONG-EARED OWL face-to-face. I've had them zoom
over my head numerous times and I've unintentionally flushed them from the
trees but I've never really seen their face.  They booed and hissed from
hidden perches and called me all kinds of names but one finally gave in and
posed for a photo.  I was thrilled!

I watched a beautiful SHORT-EARED OWL hunt the marshes along the road to
Garr Ranch this morning and spied a male WESTERN TANAGER hiding in the
trees by the ranch house. Also, I saw my first WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE of the
year delivering food to their off-spring. If anyone is interested, the SAGE
THRASHERS as really starting to pop out of the sage and the fledglings are
out and about.

A final note: Almost all Long-eared Owls in their portrait photos look like
they've seen a ghost, but they're still gorgeous. If you'd like to view the
