A couple of us headed north after the Farmington Bay Watch yesterday.
Many thousands of birds can still be seen along the shore south of the
causeway, but most were too far away to be able to identify. The good
news, however, is that a few interesting birds were close enough to see
(in addition to the Franklins gulls, stilts, and avocets).
Just east of the point where the bay comes up to the south side of the
causeway, there are a couple of small "puddles" not far from the road.
Yesterday they were full of plovers (semipalmated and snowy), along with a
few western sandpipers.
Near the west end of the causeway, on both sides but mostly the north,
were a bunch of curlews.
Enjoy.
