I spent this weekend with many Wyoming Birders, and several RMBO
employees looking for Flammulated Owl and Purple Martin in Wyoming. In
2002 Katie Brashear working for RMBO located several calling Flammulated
Owls in the Sierra Madre range in southeast Wyoming. At this time the
bird had only historical records in Wyoming, mostly during migration.
It was not know to breed in the state. Last year Doug Faulkner and Rich
Levad found a colony of 2 pairs of nesting Purple Martin's in the same
area as the owls. The first nesting record in Wyoming in over 70 years.
This year Cheyenne-High Plains Audubon and RMBO decided to put on a
weekend to search for both these birds, and see if a nesting Flammy
could be located. Here is the story and some pictures:
