Peregrine Falcons

Have been out of town for the past week. Returned Sunday and was back
on falcon watch today. Will give you a brief synopsis of what has
happened with the birds recently.

All three young birds have been determined to be female. One bird was
found dead on a rooftop near the box, but it is unclear exactly what
happened. A second bird flew into a building, came down and was
recovered by three members of the watch team. She is now with a
rehabilitator. X-rays show nothing broken, but the bird is reported to
be acting "punch drunk." She will be monitored until it can be
determined if it is in her best interest to put her back out.

The third bird fledged a few days ago. She, too, flew into a building
and had to be taken to the vet to be checked out. She was okay and was
put back up on one of the buildings. Between 10:00 and 3:00 today, she
made several strong short flights in the general area of temple square.
She made some good turns and her landings were quite proficient. Her
favorite spot seems to be the huge crane which hovers over the
Tabernacle. Will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow when the
construction crews are back on site.

That's all I know for now. Plan to be there in the morning and so will
let you know what happens.
