If the Heber area has run out of Bobolinks, head up to Weber and Davis
Counties. The Bobolinks have returned to the wet meadows in Ogden Valley
(saw five males 3 days ago) and one Bobolink was reported at TNC's Great
Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve during the bird festival last Saturday.
I believe the TNC population uses the fields on either side of the entrance
road. For the Ogden Valley site, follow the directions below.
Take SR-39 east toward Huntsville and around Pineview Reservoir. SR-39 is
accessible either from I-15 exit 347 or from I-84 through Weber Canyon, exit
92 (Mountain Green), SR-167 and over Trapper's Loop. East of Huntsville,
SR-39 takes a 90-degree east turn toward Monte Cristo, but don't do that!
Continue north on 7800E. for a half mile (DON'T bear left when the main road
does). Turn right (east) on the next dirt road into the field. The road is
neither marked nor restricted by 'No Trespassing' or 'Private Property'
signs. It's intended for farm-vehicle access to the fields and is not
really suitable for passenger cars. Use a scope to scan 180 degrees on
fenceposts and low over fields, especially in a southeasterly direction.
