Here's a question.
My sister is wondering, could she have seen an *American Goldfinch* in
the Park City area? (Snyderville Basin on South side of Swanner
Reserve.) It was seen feeding at their backyard feeder. It is too
small to be a Tanager. The bird is described as having a bright yellow
body (belly, chest, part of back), black tail, small black cap on head.
About 3/4 of wings were black down to the wing tip. Shoulder was
yellow. It was seen in just that last day or so. (About May 9.)
Of course, Sibley says Am. Goldfinch is year-round in Northern Utah, and
Winters in Southern Utah. From several BirdTalk postings since last
Summer, they have been sighted in the S.L. County, South Weber, and
Logan/Cache Valley areas. It seems clear then that it could be an Am.
Goldfinch they sighted in Snyderville Basin. (I did not see it myself.)
Any thoughts that you would care to share would be appreciated.
