As you know from BIRDTALK, I share your
concern.
Probably there was not much danger in Tim's report, as
Burrowing Owls are not on the list of birds that falconers can take legally
- in UT anyway. After all, they're insectivores. Neither are
Short-eared Owls. The only owls that can be taken by falconers are
Great Horneds. I assume Idaho's regs are similar.
But that still leaves unethical photographers, egg
collectors and others ...
So it's best not to report any raptor nest locations on
the internet.

I worry about this kind of information being shared on the
internet. I worry about the Falconers who watch these lists and then
go hunting for a different reason than the bird watchers. Maybe a
phone number for those who need these details and would do no harm to the
owls would be better?
