Just to add to Harrys comment, I have heard some excellent imitations of Killdeers by Starlings and some not so good ones. At my home, in the top of the trees, I consistently hear a Killdeer. And when I look up its just another group of pesky Starlings.
I have sat out here in front of my work and listened to Starlings mimic Killdeers, Gulls, Robins and even a Kestrel. Very interesting behavior to say the least.

Hi Richard.
If you hear a Killdeer, it was probably a Killdeer...they overwinter in suitable habitat even father north than where you are located. The ONLY other possibility to explain hearing a Killdeer, and there NOT actually be one present, is the annoying fact that European Starling can actually sometimes duplicate Killdeer vocalizations.

Hi all,
I was at Main St. in Hyrum at the Sinclair station gassing up my car when
I heard from across the street what I believe to be a Killdeer. This would
be in the area near the storage lockers; it's an area that is wet and
swampy. I would think that it's a little early for Killdeer, but then,
what do I know? I'm just the "other birder" here...
Good birding,
Richard
