Hi all,
Oh no, it's 2005! That means I have to re-start all my and my wife's bird
lists again....
2004 wasn't as big species-wise as 2003 was, as we spent 2003 in Texas, but
I did set a personal record for most states that I saw birds in, with six:
Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. I also broke 400 on
my life list, and my best birding experience of the year was the day I was
birding with other members of the Bridgerland Audubon Society and we SAW two
different species of owls: Barn and Great Horned. I had heard two different
owl species in a day before, but I had never SEEN two on the same day.
So far, I haven't seen any birds this year, but I'm looking. We're hoping
to be driving across country soon, and adding more states to my states
birded in list. No one ever told me when I began birding four years ago
that I'd need to keep so many lists...
Good birding and Happy New Year,
Richard

Well, not a contest really, but several birders I know like to note the
first bird they see in the new year, and compare it with the first bird
they
saw in prior years.
So, today, let's share what bird was our 'first bird' of 2005.
Quite by accident, this morning I looked up as I was shoveling my
driveway,
and saw a Cooper's Hawk cruise into a neighbors tree, with a small flock
of
European Starlings close behind mobbing him (her). I have to say, this is
the best 'first bird' I have ever seen.
How about you? What was your 'first bird' of 2005?
Robin Tuck
