There's been no decrease in House Finches at my
feeders in West Jordan, but I have noticed the occasional tumor-like deformation
on the heads of just a very few. I've fed for 4 winters now and the populations
seem constant each year.
Mine seems to be a Junco-less location, so when I
see one, it's a big deal. Saw one a few days back....one time, one day, then
gone.
All this Sharp-Shinned Hawk food on the wing, but
no hawks....other than a stray juvenile Cooper's that swooped in one day in
September. The hawk attacks are amazing. They happen so fast you'd better not
blink. And if they don't stay around to eat, chances are you'll not see the same
bird again. That's been my experience.
I'm patiently waiting for Pomera's Blue Jay to find
my place.
