Dennis Shirley and I visited Scofield this afternoon. The reservoir is
still about 95% ice free, although there is some ice immediately behind
the dam and along the northwest shore. There were several thousands of
ducks on the lake. Pintails, American wigeon, and lesser scaup were
abundant and eared grebe were common. The best birds of the trip were a
two pairs of Barrow's goldeneyes and Bonaparte's gull. A flock 29 tundra
swans was seen. An American white pelican and a double-crested merganser
are still lingering in the area. We also saw a pair of bald eagles in
the vicinity of Electric Lake and a Lewis's woodpecker in Fairview.
