Bob and I have spent a fair amount of time working on a volunteer basis
with The Nature Conservancy and for Initiative #1. We have been strong
supporters of The Nature Conservancy for many years--over 25 years in
fact--and have enjoyed some of their preserve areas for birding,
beginning in southern Arizona in the 70's. The Nature Conservancy is
one of the primary sponsors of Initiative 1. We believe strongly in
their environmental ethics and programs. There are definite
accountability provisions worked into the Initiative. They have also
pledged to work on a willing seller/willing buyer or a win/win basis.
Voters often are afraid of any tax raises, however this one is
extremely small--one cent out of $20.00 for the benefits that can be
gained. Nevada recently passed a $200 million dollar initiative.
Initiative 1 is only for $150 million.
Bob and I strongly support Initiative 1 and anything that is done to
save the great places of Utah for birding as well as other nature
enjoyments.
Georgene and Bob Bond
