Re: Sandhill Cranes Migrating South

They should be safe since the Sandhil Crane hunt is over for the year. Uintah county season ended on October 3. Rich, East Box Elder and Cache counties seasons ended September 12. There was a total of 74 permits sold for the 2004 season. I could not find any numbers on the Cranes that were taken by hunters this season.
According to the DWR proclamation, only 1 crane of either sex may be taken during the entire season in all 4 counties.
I personally believe that 1 crane taken is one too many, but at least the number of permits sold is not as great as it has been in earlier years.
What is done with a Sandhill Crane? Eaten, mounted?
I see no use in it.
Maybe someone out there on the discussion group could weigh in with the Pros on hunting Sandhill Cranes.

Start rooting for the Swans right now. The hunts on for them til the end of December and I'm hoping that the hunters can tell the difference between the Tundras and the Trumpeters. Even though there is still no penalty for taking a Trumpeter.

If they stay out of Texas, perhaps?
