Hi all
We just got back from an attempted walk around the
shore of Hyrum Lake. We only made it as far as the beach entrace after
starting from the main entrance. We didn't see too many species of birds,
but we did get some good stuff. While in the beach part of the park, near
the wooded area at the edge of the park, we saw a Red-eyed Vireo. I've
seen quite a few Red-eyeds and MANY Warbling Vireos, and I KNOW that this guy
was a Red-eyed. He had a bluish cap and a white eye stripe. I know
they are supposedly somewhat out of range, but a few have been seen in the state
this year, and to anyone in the area that wants to dispute my ID, I saw him
twice and I had as good a look at him as the last Red-eyed Vireo I saw, in
Friedrich Park in San Antonio, Texas, last September. He's my first year
bird since the end of last month.
When we got home, we were sititng on the porch and
we had many Common Nighthawks and a few White-throated Swifts fly over our
place, both of which are yard birds.
But still the highlight of the day and one of the
best birds I've seen ina long time was the Red-eyed Vireo.
Good birding,
Richard
