Bear River & AI Causeway

The Salt Lake birders went to Bear River MBR (Box Elder County) and Antelope Island (Davis County) today.

Highlights were as follows...

Bear River MBR

Sora - at least 2
Virginia Rail - at least 4 - the rails and Soras were feeding together out in the open in a canal on the south side of the north dike
American Bittern - 2 separate birds flew by
Peregrine Falcon - 1 circled right over us along the north dike
STILT SANDPIPER - 1 - the highlight for most including myself - 1 adult was mixed in with a flock of ~ 500 shorebirds which included dowitchers, phalaropes and both yellowlegs in the main unit (viewed from the north dike)
Snowy Plover - 3 in the canal to the east of the east dike
Least Sandpiper ~ 20 in the same canal as above
Western Sandpiper - 1 mixed in with a flock of Least Sandpipers
Long-billed Curlew - 2 juveniles in the same canal as above

Antelope Island Causeway

Semipalmated Plover - 2 on the far western side (across from the marina) of the causeway on the south side
Baird's Sandpiper - 3 - north side
Sanderling - 4 - north side
Long-billed Curlew - 2 adults - on the north side

and great company, too!

Colby
