Subject: a lot of birds
Email_Address: jolenehatch@utah.govMessage: For those of you that have not been to Antelope Island for awhile, there are a lot of birds to be seen.
There are hundreds of Franklin Gulls, California Gulls (adult and young), phalaropes and Blacked-necked stilts, avocets, quite a few willets. The families of long-billed curlews have still been on the island. Steve did his bird survey on the west side of the island and came across 60,000 sandpipers and phalaropes out on the mud flats. Awesome!!!!!! I have also had the opportunity to see 5 young blue herons together along the causeway. The fly as soon as they seen a vehicle, but I have seen them two or three times.
We also have (to the Maintenance Supervisors dismay) four nests of swallows on park headquarters building with eggs, chicks, and young flying around. Great time to see birds.
