Hi,
I've had a few private responses. The consensus seems to be a juvenile Sage Thrasher. It's roughly the size of a blackbird or meadowlark, maybe 7-9"? Here are 4 more photos. The wind has him a little ruffled in one of them: http://bailey.aros.net/auctions/bird2.jpg http://bailey.aros.net/auctions/bird3.jpg http://bailey.aros.net/auctions/bird4.jpg http://bailey.aros.net/auctions/bird5.jpg He's definitely striped on the back, which matches the description in one of my guides for a juvenile Sage Thrasher. Having recently retired, I'm just getting back into birding, and haven't seen a Sage Thrasher in years. This one definitely had me baffled. Thanks to all for the help. Jim |
