After cutting my lawn today in Taylorsville, I noticed there was a different
"chipping" sound in my yard so I ran in to grab my binoculars. After
pulling up a lawn chair and taking a spot near the sound, I saw a bird drop
over the fence and into my blue spruce. This silent little bird toured the
yard and at first it looked like a white-crowned sparrow. But something
about the coloring made me watch more closely and after it popped back out
of some wandering vinca, it stood out on a spruce limb and let me get a
close look--it was a White-throated Sparrow. I went all the way to
Southern Utah and saw my first one this year. Now I get one in my back
yard!
I never did see the "chipping" bird that got me out there in the first
place.
Carol
