Message: The scattered reports of lark buntings may not portray the extent
of the incursion this year by this bird. On our breeding bird survey done
on wednesday, June 2 at Randolph we counted over 30 individuals and between
stops saw an additional 20 to 30 birds. We saw 2 separate flocks of over 20
birds each, mixed males and females. Although we have seen this species on
perhaps 30-40 % of our BBS at Randolph over the years, we have never seen
anything approaching these numbers.
