Hello,
I've been reading your list for a couple of weeks and have quite enjoyed it.
My original motivation for joining was to ask the question I'm posing in
this email, but I've been very much enjoying the discussion of good birding
sites and Mandarin Ducks and whatnot.
Here's my question. Over the last 6-7 years, I've been watching a pair of
Redtailed Hawks nesting high in a tree in the Salt Lake Cemetery. (The tree
is located within a block of the bathrooms, though I'm not sure of th street
name.) They were in the same tree for 4-5 years in a row, and then two years
ago they were gone. They did not return last year, and I have not yet seen
them this year. This is about the time of year I expect to start seeing
them. I've very much enjoyed watching the babies hatch and grow and learn to
fly each year, and would like to find them again.
Does anyone know if they've gone somewhere else in the cemetery to nest? I
called Hawkwatch International and the man I spoke with said that Redtailed
Hawks will sometimes cycle through nesting sites.
All best,
Kelli Frame
