Blue Grouse and Sage Sparrows

Greetings!

Julie and I set out to find some Blue Grouse on Friday morning and find them we did.  We saw maybe 25 near Powder Mountain.  Most of them flushed up into the trees, but we did get a prolonged look at two of them working the side of the road.

We next tried Ogden Bay WMA where there were lots of hunters and very limited access to water.  Same story at Howard Slough WMA.

Our last stop at Antelope Island gave us a nice surprise in two Sage Sparrows.  We found them by turning right past the marina and heading toward the Visitors' Center.  We parked in the second turnout and walked down into the sagebrush, kind of in a northwesterly direction.  With limited time to bird Garr Ranch, we found mostly Ruby-crowned Kinglets (along with one Golden-crowned) and Hermit Thrushes.  Along the causeway were lots of Eared Grebes (including the albino), five Long-billed Curlews and maybe thirty Sanderling.
