We birded Ouray National Wildlife Refuge on Wednesday and saw the American
bittern, blue grosbeaks (both male and female), a long-billed dowitcher,
black terns, orioles, black-headed grosbeaks, lazuli buntings, sora, common
yellowthroat and many other birds but we never saw the indigo bunting or
the green heron.
That refuge is quite an impressive place but it would be better to stay the
night in Roosevelt or Vernal and spend a whole day birding. We were gone
15 ½ hours--64 birds total for the trip.
