Bear River Bird Count

Waterbird Count
10/27/05

Total ducks around 213,000 which is pretty close to the long-term average
of 233,000 for this time of year. Swans have shown up in good numbers
(~7,000) though I didn't get that many in my count. Pintails still comprise
the majority of the ducks. Buffleheads starting to show up. Highest
avocet, marbled godwit, and dowitcher count for this time of year of any
records I searched. 28% of birds were observed from the tour route.
First rough-legged hawk of the fall. Canvasback numbers are similar to
those reported in the early 1960s.

Many, many, birds on Willard Spur... or the Great Salt Lake south of the
Refuge boundary.
