Re: Pacific Loon

Well, the reporter on Channel 4 out of Salt Lake thought that Eagles were now "nesting".

The Pacific Loon continues to be seen at close range at Hyrum Lake SP in Cache County. Today, it was hanging out right next to the shoreline, close to the dam. It was staying well away from the Common Loons (about a dozen) that were also present. Four female Red-Breasted Mergansers were in the same area of the reservoir.

Subject change - Regarding owls: I follow the Minnesota birdline, since I go there a couple of times each year. So far this fall, there have been about a dozen reports of Northern Hawk Owls, including seven in one week (2 weeks ago). Last fall and winter, there was only one NHO reported on the MN birdline. There have also been at least a half-dozen Great Grays reported in central and northeastern MN. I hope our friends in eastern Idaho will also help keep us posted.

I had to chuckle at a local radio station's report of the outbreak of avian cholera affecting eared grebes. The reporter obviously had never read the word, "cholera" before. Ah, so much to learn. . .
