At noon on August 16th at Bear River Wildlife
Refuge there were four juvenile Virginian Rails persistently feeding in the open
on the puddle just left of the small bridge on the North dike road of the
auto-tour road exactly 1.6 miles from the Bear River Migratory Bird
Refuge welcome sign. I was not able to scope out any unusual
migrating shorebirds such as the stilt sandpipers reported earlier. It is
incredible how little water is left in the refuge impoundments. Alan S.
