A group of about 10 of us stood in vigil at the Purple Gallinule site Wednesday morning from about 6:30 a.m. to at least 9:30 a.m. The Purple Gallinule did not appear. Perhaps the number of people kept it back in the rushes. We were told that the bird flew into view Tuesday evening in response to a tape recording of its call. There is certainly a great deal of habitat in which the bird can hide!
