A lone male WOOD DUCK was observed today on Salem Pond at 3:30 p.m. It was
spotted in the open water off the boat ramp, swimming between the floating
"Christmas trees." The other birds one commonly expects to find on Salem
Pond in winter were also there - Common Goldeneyes, Mallards, Gadwalls,
Green-wing Teal, Canada Geese, Common Mergansers, Ring-Necked Ducks,
Lesser Scaup, American Coots, American Wigeon, Northern Shoveller, and
Pied-billed Grebe. A Cooper's Hawk was observed in the tall bare deciduous
trees in the park, along with othercommon birds.
