This is Terry Toppins with the Montana Birding Hotline sponsored by
Birdwatcher's Country Store at the corner of Main and Pattee in Missoula
recorded Monday evening December 1st, 2003.

The SIBERIAN ACCENTOR found by Sue Williams November 22nd in the Paradise
Valley
continues to be seen. It was seen Sunday November 30th at 1020AM and 1034AM.
It cannot be emphasized enough how skittish this bird is. It comes in to
feed every
15 to 20 minutes for a short time on the ground below a feeder with a green
cap hanging
in the bushes just to the right of a small footbridge about 40 feet from the
parking area.
Any sudden movement will will flush the bird. Please do not get out of your
vehicles and
also respect the homeowners privacy. Sue and Red Williams live South of
Livingston
off Highway 89. From I-90 go 36.1 miles South on Highway 89 to the turnoff
to Tom Miner
Basin (all of these roads are signed) about 4 miles south of the first bridge
over the
Yellowstone River
and turn right( west) onto Tom Miner Road. Go over the Yellowstone River
again on
Carbella Bridge and after about 150 meters (past a row of mailboxes) turn
left (south)
for about 1 half mile until the sign for Bobcat Lane. Turn right (west) onto
Bobcat Lane
for a short distance and then turn left (south) onto Grizzly Meadow Lane.
You pass
a cattle guard, go over a low hill and you will see a cabin on the left with
an old Christmas
wreath on it. There is some yellow tape to the right of the cabin indicating
the path to
look down watching for the Siberian Accentor (which of course is a first
state record).
Sunday November 30th, Virginia Vincent was at Lee Metcalf NWR and found
another
first state record - a WHITE-TAILED KITE. Wayne Tree relocated and
digiscoped the
Kite today and I saw it about dusk. The White-tailed Kite seems to be
frequenting the
low bushes on the second pond west of the dike road. It can best be seen from
about
100 yards west of the headquarters scanning about 10-15 feet off the ground.
 Wayne
Tree at 777-3159 is available anytime after Noon Tuesday to help anyone who
would like
his assistance locating this bird.
November 27th Joe and Poody McLaughlin were visiting in Billings and had a
Merlin
cruise by overhead and then they found a CANYON WREN on Mountain View
Boulevard
above the gym at MSU-Billings and then found 3 BLUE JAYS at Two Moon Park.
Dan Casey on Thanksgiving Day found 9 WESTERN, 1 RED-NECKED and 1 HORNED
GREBE in Somers Bay on Flathead Lake. At his home he had a WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW at his feeders.
Interestingly Steve Gniadek saw 2 WESTERN, 1 RED-NECKED and 1 HORNED
GREBE on Lake McDonald at Glacier National Park on the 30th. But Steve also
had a PACIFIC LOON near Lake McDonald Lodge.
If you have sightings you would like to share please leave a message or call
Carole
or Terry at 549-6027. Thanks and good birding. HL-213
