For those with a high-clearance vehicle who would like to try for the
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, there are now instructions on the Utah Birds
website. Here's a link to the "Birding Places Index:"
http://utahbirds.org/counties/SiteIndex.htm
When you get to the canyon, there will be a dry stream on your right.
Further up where there's water in the stream, you'll cross over the
stream where it goes under the road through a "pipe." Process up the
road a short distance to where there's a turnoff on the right. About
300 or 400 yards up the road from the turnoff is a grove of cottonwood
and aspen trees along the stream. The sapsucker moved arround quite a
bit in these trees, sometimes making some soft pecking sounds as it
foraged along the trunk and branches.
Good luck,
Milton Moody
