Sanpete County

Well For the new years Eric and I headed out to do some birding today. We decided to go to Juab and Sanpete County. We first stopped at Burrastin Ponds. Besides Open Water, there were no birds. Well there were ten Pied Billed Grebes, and a Great Blue Heron. Next we went up Salt Creek Canyon from Nephi. We stopped next in the Moroni Cemetery. There was a surprise there. (There is a lot of snow in Moroni.) There was a Bewicks Wren in a Spruce Tree there. Also there were Mountain Chickadees, Kestral, WC Sparrows, Ravens, Dark Eyed Junco and House Finches. We saw many Bald and Golden Eagles in Sanpete County. BUT THERE WAS NOT ONE HAWK. They must stay out of the higher valleys in the winter. The only open water with birds in it was at Palisades State Park past Manti. There were some Lesser Scuap, Pintail, PB Grebe, Am Wigeon. We ended up checking out Salem Pond in Utah County. There was a good mixture of ducks. Nothing unusual, some Goldeneye and Shovlers were new. Fun day, a lot of snow and pretty.
