Message: I found a female or 1st year yellow-throated warbler on the Zion CBC on the 28th. The bird was active in cottonwoods on a large point bar ca. 1/3 mile up canyon from the Grotto Picnic Area, in mid-day when it was sunny. The area was on the south (road) side of the Virgin River, in a flat area where there are some exclosures and a few large scattered Fremont cottonwoods. There is a bit of a drop from the road, so hike east up the river on the south bank from the Grotto. It gets a bit messy unless you stay close to the road until you get past a drainage area full of brush. Listen for a rather distinctive chip note. The bird was very confiding, and I spent a good two minutes studying it under perfect conditions. I think it may also be frequenting the area directly north across the river where a stream comes into the Virgin and there is some dense growth and cottonwoods. Grotto Picnic area is also a possibility. Good luck!
