Thanksgiving Count, 2002
On Thanksgiving morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. within a 15 foot circle,
10 bird species were spotted in my backyard (Provo) and reported for the
2002 Thanksgiving Count:
Blackcapped Chickadee
American Goldfinch
House Finch
Pine Siskin
Dark-eyed Junco
Steller's Jay
Scrub Jay
Blackbilled Magpie
California Quail
Spotted Towhee
Later in the morning a Sharp-shinned Hawk scared all the birds off and
remained perched for over any hour. When some House Finches came back to a
feeder, the hawk made a quick pursuit. I don't know if the Sharpie was
successful.
