At noon today, November 6th, I birded with the owner of the Powell Slough,
Darrell Clegg. Present were the WW Scoter; common, red-breasted, and
hooded mergansers-- all of them being females. The most direct shot to
get to Darrell's property is taking one block west on Springwater Drive
off of 800 South and Geneva Road in Orem. In addition to seeing the WW
Scoter "life bird", it was interesting hearing Mr. Clegg's vexation of his
ex-wife successfully suing him to sell 200 acres of farmland for the city
golf course; lamentations of not being able to preserve this land "for
wildlife"; knowing that most of his land will be sold by his sons for
inheritance taxes" after he leaves; and that he "certainly didn't make as
much money as promised when he sold his land for development to the east".
