Nancy,
Just when summer birding was getting boring, a red-headed woodpecker
surfaces in a most unusual place--White Pine Lake. The bird, a nice adult,
was seen just south of the bridge over White Pine Creek on the Tony
Grove Lake to White Pine Lake trail. The bridge is about 1/3 of a mile
from White Pine Lake and about 3.5 miles from the Tony Grove Lake
parking lot. It was seen working the dead top of a spruce tree. It made no
sounds. I am most interested in knowing if anyone else finds this bird.
