Hello everyone,
My wife and I had a very successful day out at the two retention ponds =
out at Farmington Bay - they are actually North of Farmington bay =
located next to that large radar dome. On the second pond (furthest away =
from us of course) we were able to spot lots of birds. Our best find was =
the ROSS'S GOOSE!!! It was all by itself, and we had a very difficult =
time trying to distinguish it from the snow goose, but we were pretty =
sure it didn't have that "grin patch".
Here are other species that we found while we were out there:
1.. Canadian Geese - we even saw one with a yellow band around his =
neck!
  2.. Starlings
  3.. Redwinged Black Birds
  4.. Coots
  5.. Northern Harrier
  6.. California Gull
  7.. White Pelican
  8.. Bald Eagle
  9.. Shovelers
  10.. Buffleheads
  11.. Pintails
  12.. Redhead
13.. Golden Eye - both Barrows AND common
  14.. Green Winged Teal
  15.. Magpies
  16.. Avocets
  17.. Gadwall
  18.. American Wigeon
19.. Ruddy Ducks - nice blue bills!
  20.. Eared Grebes
  21.. Cinnamon Teal
  22.. Greater Scaup
As you can see there were a lot to see out there. I hope that you can =
all get a chance to go out there and try to see that Ross's Goose! That =
was definitely one of our "life list" birds.
Take care,
Wes & Donna Segni
