Spring Migration Continues Building

The Wild Bird Center in Layton took a group of birders to Farmington Bay
Saturday. Steve Coleman was our escort, as a volunteer naturalist for DWR.
Steve took us beyond the gates and treated us to a wonderful bird walk,
around Farmington Bay.

We saw plenty of evidence of the Spring Migration: Greater yellow Legs,
Tundra Swan, Ruddy ducks with bills turning blue on the drakes, Cinnamon Teal
arriving, Canada Geese pairing up. There were scads of ducks of all stripes,
many beginning to show courtship behaviors.

A stooping Peregrine was breath taking, as he pursued a duck with both
disappearing into the cattails.

The eagles are still there devouring the remains of the carp which DWR has
eliminated from the ponds.

Next Saturday's bird trip will be to Salt Creek to see migrating Tundra Swans
and Snow Geese. We leave the Wild bird Center in Layton at 8 a.m., call
(801) 525-8400 with questions.

Enjoy the birds,
