How get birding stuff in the Trib, a primer.

Many people on this list are officers in birding- and conservation-related
organizations and strive mightily to get information to the news media and
the public. Maybe this will help.

The best way to get this into the Trib's calendar sections:
Recreation Calendar-- editor is Jim Halley--jhalley@sltrib.com or 257-8961,
257-8950 (fax). Halley is delighted to put birding-related things,
especially field trips, in the calendar.

The weekend Calendar -- editor is Anna Cekola, acekola@sltrib.com 257-8769,
257-8690. The weekend calendar is mostly entertainment, but lectures and
some other activities, like stuff for kids, apply.

If it's a newsworthy environmental tip or story, email Brent Israelson
israel@sltrib.com, 257-8796. On subjects like urban sprawl, growth,
demographix, LEGACY HIGHWAY, Dave Noyce 257-8747. noyce@sltrib.com. (Don't
be crushed if your story lead isn't followed, news judgment is a complex
and fickle thing.)

If you just want to kvetch about issues, write a letter to the editor:
Letters to the Editor, SL Tribune, 143 S. Main St., 84111.

BTW, the news staff of the Trib HAS NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the
editorial page opinions. Call the editorial folks at 257-8888 if you wish
to vent over something idiotic they've written.

Mail press releases to above people at S. L. Tribune, 143 S. Main St. Slc,
84111. Make your press releases short and to the point. 1. Make sure you
include date, time and place info. 2. Very briefly what it's about. 3. Put
a "contact person"on it who can be called for confirmation or additional
info. If it's FREE put that in prominently.

Keep in mind that even with the best communication and intentions,
announcements, calendar items and stories sometimes fail to make it into
print. We're only human (on a good day).
