More on White-rumped Sandpipers

For those of you who are thinking of looking for these birds, you should
know that a section of the auto tour route beyond stop #2 (observation
tower) is closed to vehicle traffic due to construction work. There was
no construction today, so we went ahead and drove the quarter mile to
stop #3 (only after seeing someone else do it, of course!). Only
vehicles were banned, so presumably you could walk it. The White-rumped
Sandpipers were feeding in the shallow water and vegetated mud flats on
the right (west) side of the road, along with a few stilts and
phalaropes. Of the 9 birds, 8 were in breeding plumage and one was
nearly there. The construction doesn't seem to be in the immediate area
of the birds, so hopefully they'll hang around for awhile.
