Antelope Island Causeway

5/21/01
I saw the 5 Whimbrels, counted 492 Black-bellied Plovers, and saw 2 Red
Knots at 5:30 p.m. yesterday. I saw insanely high numbers of Sanderlings
along the causeway-793 on the north side from mile marker 3 to the island (I
counted 182 when looking for the Curlew Sandpiper 2 weeks ago). It seemed
that there were just as many on the south side from mile marker 4 to the
island. At 7:30, I stopped to look at the mudflats again, and saw a flock
of 14 Red Knots, but the Whimbrels were gone. Didn't get a chance to make
it to Garr Ranch.
