Summer Bird Research Positions

Hi all,

I'm looking for one or two research assistants to help me on a study of
birds in pinyon-juniper woodlands in Arizona and Utah this spring/summer.
This position would be great for a high school or college student
interested in getting experience in ecological research. The study will
run from early May through early July and will involve sampling birds and
their habitats at a number of sites in northern and eastern Arizona as
well as southern Utah. Study sites will range from isolated mesas in
Grand Canyon National Park to heavily grazed public lands.

Assistants' duties will include bird surveys, measuring vegetation, taking
observations on birds' foraging behaviors, and sampling insects. No
research experience is necessary, but experience with bird identification
or vegetation measurement is desirable. Housing will primarily be camping,
and assistants will need to provide their own camping equipment. Some
backpacking (2-3 day trips) may be required as well. Work hours and days
are flexible.

Pay for this position will be a modest stipend (to be determined), and
assistants will be reimbursed for any mileage that they incur in their
personal vehicle. As soon as possible, interested applicants should send
or e-mail (preferred) a cover letter, resume or CV, and 2 references to:
