Dear Birders:

Happy to report the most interesting bird we have ever had in our backyard,=20=
a=20
European Goldfinch.

I live in Farmington just North of Oakridge Golf Course. =A0Feel free to com=
e=20
and observe. =A0If we aren't home, walk around to the back yard. =A0I would=20
recommend using the steps on the east side of the house. =A0When you reach t=
he=20
back yard, watch from that corner of the home. =A0There are some shrubs that=
=20
will screen you from the birds (they tend to flush otherwise) =A0The feeders=
=20
are about 30-40 =A0feet from that position. =A0They are located on some tree=
s and=20
shrubs directly in back of the kitchen patio door in the lower yard and abov=
e=20
the rock garden.

We have seen it three times this morning: =A0at 7:42 a.m., at 8 a.m., and ju=
st=20
now at 10:10 a.m. =A0It was at two different tube feeders with Niger seed.=20=
=A0It=20
was also on the ground under one of the feeders picking seed that had fallen=
.=20
=A0The previous sightings were on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m.

It is a male with great markings (Sibley's Guide page 537). =A0It has=20
apparently finished its molt. =A0The American Gold Finches and Lesser Gold=20
Finches are in their molt now. =A0Keith Evans and Jack Rensel are going to t=
ry=20
and photograph it. =A0Jack thinks mornings would be best. =A0It hangs out wi=
th=20
=A0the other Gold Finches and Pine Siskins.

Directions: =A0From I-15, take the Hwy 89 North exit (2nd Farmington exit of=
f=20
I-15). =A0Go to the first traffic light at Shepard Lane. =A0Turn Left (West)=
, go=20
to the first right (behind K-Mart) 1075 West (North). =A0Go to the 3rd left,=
=20
1500 North (also named Oakridge Park Drive). =A0There is a new LDS church on=
=20
the corner (in this new subdivision). =A0Go to the 2nd left, 1710 North (als=
o=20
named St. Andrew Drive). =A0Go 1 block, the road Tee's =A0Turn right onto 12=
75=20
Sweetwater Lane. =A0We are the second home on the right (three car garage),=20
#1292 Sweetwater Lane (number is on mailbox).

Good birding,
