Unlike the last month trip to Washington County, this past weekend was warm and clear, and it wasn't a trip to see as many species as possible. It was a relatively easy outting. I chased the birds reported by others over the last couiple of weeks. These included:
Anna's Hummingbird Found 50 yards above cement creek crossing at Red Cliffs Recreation Area, right where Steve Summers and Merrill Webb had reported it. Thanks. It took the parts of two days to be lucky. A Utah lifer!
Golden-crowned Sparrow Exactly where Carol Nelson reported it. Three bushes up from the fee station at Red Cliffs. Thanks also to Dana, Rob, and others. It took two hours to get a good look. It's with 11 white-crowned sparrows.
Horned Grebe At Quail Creek Reservoir. Thanks Merrill and Rick.
Black-tailed Gnatcatcher Near the corrals at the entrance to Lytle Ranch, Beaver Dam Wash. Thanks, Dana. It was right where you saw it. A great look.
Sage Sparrow Sorry Milt! You should have been along. Two were at the Woodbury Preserve on the Beaver Dam Slope.
It pays to have friends in high places. Thanks.
