Glaucous Gulls, Hooded Merganser, "Iceland Gull"

On Sunday, January 28, I took my kids to Farmington
Bay to see the Bald Eagles. I counted 105, so it was
pretty impressive. Afterward we walked about 200
yards past the gate at the south end of the west dike
road to look at the gulls feeding on the many dead
carp. They were mostly California and Herring gulls
in that area, with a few Ring-billed, and at least 2
Thayer's as well. There was an adult Glaucous Gull as
well as a second winter Glaucous among them. I also
spotted a gull there that I believe was our "Iceland
Gull" from the dump. It was the size of the
California Gulls or a little smaller, it had the dark
bill that was pale just at the base, and its primaries
were no darker than its body. It looked like the same
bird to me. I didn't know if anyone had seen it
recently. We also headed over to the Salt Lake Marina
by Saltair. Along with many shovelers, there was one
female Hooded Merganser in the one pond with open
water. Have fun.
