Milestone: 700

On Friday, January 6th, I was privileged to see my 700th North American
bird: the Nutting's Flycatcher. The bird had been reported in Mason
Regional Park in Irvine, California. Matt DeVries and I decided to fly down
and try to find it. In the presence of 5 other avid birders, it took us 30
minutes to finally locate this 3rd North American sighting of this Mexican
species. What a thrill! Then, on Saturday, Matt and I took a boat out of
Ventura Harbor to Santa Cruz Island where, after quite a hike, we located
half a dozen Island Scrub-Jays (# 701). They are much brighter than our
Western Scrub-Jays. On the way over we also got close looks at a pair of
Xantu's Murrelets.

Thanks to all who have helped me achieve 701 wonderful memories. I look
forward to the next 99 to come.
