Mouth of Sheep Canyon
Glen Canyon NRA
San Juan County, Utah
(E-mails from Derek Dalrymple, 2 Aug 2012)
Greetings,
Here is some info on the Spoonbill. Have lots more pic's too.
On July 26, 2012 approximately at 0730 hours, while on river patrol on the
Colorado River within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, National Park
Rangers Derek Dalrymple and James O’Donoghue observed and identified a
Roseate Spoonbill. The Roseate Spoonbill was on river right across
from the mouth of Sheep Canyon. The Roseate Spoonbill was feeding,
grooming and wading along the banks of the Colorado River, while being
observed and photographed for approximately an hour. The Spoonbill flew
upstream but circled back to the general location. The Rangers were able
to identify the bird because Ranger Derek Dalrymple is a birder and his
experience as a ranger in a National Park in south Florida, Big Cypress.
Thanks, Derek
