Field Marks and Identifying Characteristics: |
Approximately same size as mature California quail. Body not barred, somewhat
mottled with minor downy tufts between wings on back. Black beak, very white
throat and head framed by black bands that cross the throat base and extending
through the eyes. Black or dark cap extends down back of neck. (see photos) |

mixture of agression and finesse. |

California, Gambel's quail. Hungarian, Chukar partridge. Eliminated by comparison of head and body markings. Compared observation with dozens of images of similar species, then compared with photos I captured. | |
